Minnesota's lakes are known for their placid beauty and recreational opportunities. But increased development and destructive shoreline management practices are increasing pressure on them, leading to declines in water quality.

The life is being squeezed out of Minnesota’s lakes, state officials say, and some of the main culprits are the very people who have the biggest stake in keeping them alive – those who own property around them.
