Floodwaters washed away a culvert under LaMoure County Road 35 just
west of Dickey, N.D. early Saturday morning, creating a gap of more
than 50 feet and claiming two lives. Large equipment is being brought
in to build a channel in hopes of lowering the water level enough
to reclaim the two victims from the churning waters.

Jim Miller, his son, Troy, and grandchildren Ashley, 11, and Casey,
14, spent a long day Easter Sunday filling sandbags near Moorheads
power plant in preparation for upcoming flooding. The four managed
to haul hundreds of sandbags to Troy Millers Moorhead home on
the banks of the Red River.

While Mike Johnson holds empty bags over the spout, Mike Vad shovels
sand to fill sandbags Saturday in Breckenridge, Minn. Using a homemade
bag-filler made from a sheet of plywood and two plastic traffic cones
with the tops cut off, six people can fill 100 bags in about 11 minutes.
The two men themselves filled 350 bags in about two hours.

Volunteers line up and pass sandbags while building a dike around
an apartment building on the bank of the Red River in Wahpeton, N.D.,
Saturday morning. Heavy equipment was busy forming an earthen dike
to the right of the apartment, where the sandbag dike stopped.

Members of the Moorhead State University football team fill sandbags
Tuesday afternoon using the "Dragon Bagger" a unit
constructed by staff at the maintenance building on the east edge
of campus for later distribution to various sites at MSU in
danger of high water problems in the coming days.
